Woo Hoo!

Posted by T'lia |

My Place and Yours. It's an old game with a new home. Each Monday a new theme is annouced and we all go back to our normal lives and find the beauty in the things that are always around us that we sometimes tale for granted. The view outside our window, a walk down our street, that special little spot in your home that is just for you, the cute little pattern on a tea cup..

Make new friends and join in the fun. This weeks theme is behind the camera...

Also, if you're in the mood for some competitions, then there are some great ones this week!

Head of to Sharnanigans and win Jane Kennedy's cookbook. Or, if you're not into cooking, you might like Kylie Auldist's CD, also up for grabs at Sharnanigans!

Also, we have a great opportunity to support one of our fellow bloggers, Miss Melly, who's hosting her FIRST giveaway! You can win some of her fabulous product, so go have a look!

If you've got any news, or if you're hosting a competition on your blog then send me, T'lia an email at talia.carbis (@) gmail.com before Tuesday and I'll post it up in our weekly news!

New Member Monday :: Meet Kate!

Posted by Bec Hem |

This week we introduce Kate, one of our very talented Blog Hunters here at Blog This. How much do you love her beautiful blog header??

Find her fab blog at Camel Shoes...

What is so fabulous about blogging? It's an outlet for me. Blogging is a way I can get things off me chest (or, more likely out of my head or heart) without forcing views on others. Over time, I've found blogging to be wonderfully therapeutic as well. It's been a welcome surprise.

Where and when do you blog? I start most blog entries in my head, whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. Whether that entry every makes it on camelshoes is almost solely dependent on how soon I can find the time to sit and transfer from brain to computer.

What's your blog mainly about? I really don't know how to answer that. There are a lot of sub-topics. I guess ultimately it's about me, although that sounds tragically self-indulgent. I guess there's a lot of travel tales, quite a bit of general rambling and, importantly (for me), a glance at the troubled corner of my soul.

What do you reckon is so great about Blog This?  I maintain that I blog for me. But it's validating to have the support of a blogging community. Blog This is a good way to connect with and/or discover like-minded Aussie bloggers.

Who does the cooking in your household? Any specialities? My man loves cooking and, double bonus, is completely amazing in the kitchen. Among countless other delicious meals he's created is his pesto chicken and haloumi salad which i can't get enough of.

A crazy/funny/beautiful memory from your life? When the boy (who i quietly fell in love with when we met) drove 11 hours to tell me he'd been in love with me since we met - NINE YEARS PRIOR! Crazy, funny and beautiful. Full story here.

Are you a 'morning' or 'night' person? easiest question ever. night. night. night. all the way.

Travel destination you must, must visit before you die? there are so many. travelling this world made me realise how much more of the world there was to see. Cinque Terre is on the must-see list but the ticket's booked and I'll be there in July. I would love to visit Tokyo. Vietnam. Morocco. New Zealand (I can't believe I've not been to new Zealand). I could go on and on...

Your idea of happiness? warm and fuzzy contentment.

Your motto for life? There are a few I am trying to live by, including: "those who mind, don't matter. and those who matter, don't mind".

Blogs of Interest 7th March: Book Reviewer

Posted by ...Mrs.P! |

Hello all, Mrs.P (aka Kylie) here, back for another Blogs of Interest post. As I've discovered from previous book-type challenges, a lot our members love reading and books! So this month I thought I'd share with you some great booky-blogs that I love, with great reviews and discussions about new and upcoming books so you can add to those TBR (To Be Read) Lists.

One of the very first aussie booky-blogs I found was Marg's called Reading Adventures. Marg absolutley loves to read, and she loves talking about books almost as much. Her blog is filled with reviews, and if you're into romance, she's read a lot and you'll def find some gems to add to your TBR list if you follow along on Marg's reading adventures.

Between the Covers is written by Coversgril, a born and bred Canberra-girl. Her blog is filled with reviews and other posts about books, I've been enjoying her reviews, as they aren't too long-winded and she gives honest opinions. I've found a few books to add to my TBR list aready and I only found this blog a short while ago. She has a very cool About Me page and you can find the best of her reviews by clicking on this link.

Fancy Goods is the new Bookseller + Publisher blog. If you've worked in the book industry before, or just love your reading you may have stumbled upon these guys. Bookseller + Publisher create the Weekly Book Newsletter (available to download in full with a subscription, but not worth it unless you work in the industry) that comes out each week and is kind of like the industries trade paper. The new blog they have set up is fantastic, it has heaps of reviews, author interviews, news on writers festivals and more. There's also a little bit of industry news and you can follow the links through to the official Bookseller + Publisher website to see each weeks Bestsellers.

If you haven't discovered the online book-buying paradise Booktopia.com.au then you really are missing out. I have bought many books from them in the past year and they have some of the best service I've ever had with online shopping (I have not been paid to say this, it's my honest opinion, just ask my sister-in-law, I've gotten her addicted to it!). Booktopia.com.au also have their very own Booktopia Blog and here you can find all the latest news on new and forthcoming books, read opinions about different books, authors and topics from some of the best in the business, and of course hear about the bargains and sales that Booktopia currently have. This is a really great blog to find books for the TBR lists, but be warned, you may end up spending lots of money!

So that's just a small selection of the aussie book-blogs I've found and enjoy. I also write book reviews on my blog, I try to post at least one or two a week, but I'm not always consistent. My reviews are short and to the point, mainly as I get bored reading reviews that are too long (which is why the above blogs' reviews are so good) and I just wanna know if the book was worth the money without too much detail (and flowery big-worded language). So if you've got a short attention span then you might like my reviews.

If anyone has found any other great aussie book-blogs, or you write book reviews on your blog, please leave us a link to them in the comments. I know myself and everyone else would love to check em out!

Until next time, Happy Reading!
